Cora Novoa
Cora Novoa is one of the most compelling live AV performers of the current moment — an artist whose practice treats sound and image not as parallel disciplines that happen to be performed together, but as a single physical system that cannot be separated.
Her live setup centres on a modular synthesiser rack in which audio and visual signals are physically routed through the same patch cables. When she changes a cable, both the sound and the image change simultaneously — not because software interprets a MIDI message and triggers a corresponding visual event, but because the voltage itself is driving both. It is genuine physical integration of a kind that most digital AV performance merely simulates.
The results are performances of remarkable coherence and immediacy: visual and sonic transformations that feel inevitable because they are, in the most literal sense, the same transformation. Novoa is currently headlining Sónar 2026 — the festival that has been the premier international platform for electronic music and digital art since 1994 — a measure of how high her profile has risen in the current moment.
