fuse*

fuse* (pronounced “fuse star”) is a Modena-based studio that has established itself as one of the most conceptually sophisticated practices in contemporary AV performance and installation. Their work consistently turns abstract data — scientific, biological, climatic, astronomical — into sensory experience: images and sounds that allow you to feel information that would otherwise exist only as numbers.

Their 2026 live performance Dökk is their most radical project to date: a performance in which a dancer’s biometric data — heartbeat, brainwave activity, galvanic skin response — is processed in real-time through custom software and used to generate the entire visual and sonic universe of the show. The performer’s biology becomes the source code; the stage becomes a portrait of an interior state made external and shared.

fuse* have exhibited and performed internationally at institutions and festivals including Ars Electronica, MUTEK, Sonar+D, and the Barbican, and have received numerous awards for their contribution to media art and data visualisation. They are one of the clearest examples of what live AV performance can achieve when technology, biology, and artistic rigour converge.
