Tarik Barri

Tarik Barri is a Dutch visual artist based in Berlin whose creation — Versum — is one of the most extraordinary live visual instruments in contemporary performance. Versum is a custom 3D visual environment that Barri performs live — a procedurally generated cosmos that responds to his real-time input, creating visual worlds of extraordinary depth, scale, and visual intelligence that could not be produced through conventional VJ tools.

The system generates entire three-dimensional environments in real-time — planets, nebulae, geometric structures, abstract fields — with a visual logic that is at once scientific and poetic, precise and vertiginous. Where most live visual practice involves the manipulation of flat video, Barri is navigating through and composing with three-dimensional space.

His collaboration with Thom Yorke — creating the visual environment for Yorke’s solo live performances and for Atoms for Peace — brought Versum to enormous international audiences. The combination of Yorke’s music and Barri’s visuals has been consistently described as one of the most complete and immersive live audiovisual experiences in contemporary performance.

Barri has collaborated with major electronic artists and exhibited at Ars Electronica, MoMA, and leading institutions worldwide.
