Aavistus Festival 2026 — Biennial of Audiovisual Art & VJ Culture

October 1–4, 2026 — Helsinki, Finland

Aavistus is Finland’s biennial of audiovisual art and VJ culture. The 2026 edition explores the theme “Attention, please!” — examining noise, signal, perception, and the politics of attention through live VJ performances, projection mapping, installations, and experimental media art.

What to Expect

  • Live VJ performances — curated programme of AV sets in Helsinki’s clubs and venues
  • Projection mapping — site-specific works on Helsinki’s architecture
  • Installations — immersive audiovisual environments in galleries and public spaces
  • Open call — international artists invited to submit VJ sets, media art, and experimental AV works
  • Talks and workshops — professional development for the Nordic AV community

Theme: “Attention, please!”

The 2026 edition examines how visual noise and information overload shape perception. How do VJs and visual artists command attention in an age of infinite distraction? What role does signal clarity play in audiovisual art?

Why It Matters for VJ Culture

Aavistus is one of the few festivals globally that explicitly positions VJ culture as its central focus. As an artist-led, non-profit initiative, it provides an unfiltered platform for experimental VJ practice — a rare and valuable space in the contemporary festival landscape.
