Location United Kingdom
Artist Matt Smith
Year 2013
Type Live Audiovisual Performance

LOOM is an Arts Council England-supported research and development project by Matt Smith, working as VIDEOfeet — an exploration of live audiovisual performance that examines how the internet and networked culture are reshaping human consciousness and attention.

The work combines video projection, motion graphics, live sound, and physical performance in a seamless continuous experience. Themes of information overload, distraction, and hyper-connectivity are explored through visual metaphors: weaving, threading, unwinding — the loom as both tool and metaphor for the structures we build and are trapped by.

Matt Smith has been a significant figure in the UK’s live visual arts scene, combining rigorous artistic practice with technical invention in performance work that challenges its audiences as much as it immerses them.
