Sagrada Familia: Ode à la Vie

Location Barcelona, Spain
Artist Moment Factory
Year 2012
Type Architectural Projection Mapping

Ode à la Vie (Ode to Life) is a landmark commission in architectural projection mapping history — the first-ever mapping on the Nativity façade of Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Família in Barcelona. Created by Moment Factory for the La Mercè Festival in September 2012, the project was a collaboration between the cities of Barcelona and Montreal.

Projecting onto Gaudí’s intricate sculpted stonework required extraordinary technical precision. The content — designed to celebrate life in all its forms — brought the façade’s rich symbolic imagery into dialogue with contemporary light art, illuminating saints, symbols, and geometric patterns in ways that honoured the building’s original intent while creating something entirely new.

The show ran across three nights and was seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors. It remains one of Moment Factory’s most celebrated works and one of the most iconic projection mapping events ever staged.
