Refik Anadol Studio
Refik Anadol Studio is one of the most widely recognised names in contemporary data-driven art — a Los Angeles-based practice that has transformed the way institutions, brands, and the general public understand what “AI art” can be.
The studio’s core methodology is the ingestion of massive datasets — the complete archive of a museum’s collection, decades of NASA space imagery, the accumulated memory of a city, the coral reef data of NOAA — and their transformation into immersive visual and sonic experiences using machine learning. The results are simultaneously analytically precise (the data is real, the training is verifiable) and visually extraordinary: fluid, hallucinatory “Data Paintings” that move like living organisms.
Landmark commissions include Unsupervised at MoMA (New York), Machine Hallucinations across many global venues, and permanent installations in major tech campuses and cultural institutions worldwide.
In spring 2026, Dataland — the world’s first museum dedicated entirely to AI-driven art — opens in Los Angeles as Anadol’s permanent institutional home. The 20,000 square foot facility is designed specifically to handle the extraordinary GPU power required to run his “Large Nature Models” in continuous real-time exhibition.
