WHITEvoid / DARK MATTER
WHITEvoid — the studio of Christopher Bauder — operates at the absolute frontier of kinetic light art, producing installations in which hundreds of winch-powered mirrors, LED nodes, and laser systems move in precise choreography with music and visual computation.
Their Berlin studio space, DARK MATTER, occupies a 1,000m² former industrial factory in East Berlin — one of the most significant physical assets of any studio in the field. The space houses TRANSFORMATOR: a permanent installation of hundreds of motorised elements that serves simultaneously as a completed artwork and as a testing environment for new systems.
SKALAR (2018, Kraftwerk Berlin), created with Robert Henke, used 32 laser projectors and 64 robotic mirror units to create a physical experience of light that audiences described as overwhelming in the most productive sense. VEKTOR extended this approach into new territory.
In 2026, WHITEvoid / DARK MATTER remains the global reference point for the integration of physical kinetic systems with digital visual and sonic computation — work that sits precisely at the boundary between sculpture, architecture, and live performance.
